    THAI Receives Its First Dreamliner

    Monday, 14th July 2014 at 6:32pm
Thai Airways International is the first airline in the country to keep a B787 in its fleet. The state-owned flag carrier is in the initial stage of its refleeting program this year with more deliveries of the same jetliner expected until next year. B787 is also dubbed the Dreamliner for its revolutionary and state-of-the-art technological features, which make it the world's most fuel-efficient jetliner.
The jetliner landed at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport at exactly 1642 hours, Friday, July 18, after a 15-hour long journey from Boeing's Everett Delivery Center in Seattle, Washington.
A ceremony was held at the airport's hangar where it was traditionally sprayed with water by the airport personnel to welcome its historic arrival. More than 500 people made up the welcome party to mark the aircraft's official entry to the Thai Airways' fleet.
The 500-strong airline personnel formed themselves into '787', the aircraft's designation number during its development to refer to its family.
The jetliner's first commercial flight is set on July 25 for the domestic service, Bangkok-Chiang Mai route. The delivery of its second Dreamliner will take place in September and October this year for its international network, specifically to Perth (Australia) and Haneda (Tokyo, Japan) from Bangkok, its main hub.
In October this year, a third B787 is scheduled for delivery which will serve three routes from Bangkok to Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, and Narita (Tokyo, Japan). By December, a fourth Dreamliner will join the airline's fleet and is set to serve Bangkok-Nagoya route. The remaining 2 of the 6 Dreamliners the airline has ordered will arrive in the middle of next year.
Thai Airways currently operates a mixture of Airbus and Boeing aircraft in its 93-strong fleet. It flies to 78 destinations across 35 countries around the world.
